Why Film?
I get this question all the time, so I figure I might as well put in on here and get you hooked on it as much as I am. Problem is, I’m not sure how to explain it. I can go into the technical things like the softness in the background of the photo and the colors that you just can’t replicate but I also just have a soft spot for it. It’s not like a perfectly crisp digital image, it has a life of it’s own, it’s nostalgic, timeless. I used this photo of my mother in law here because it inspires me when I look at it and I can connect truly with her.
I love waiting to see what’s on my roll of film I sent in, it’s always a pleasant surprise. I love that I have to be intentional with every shot I take. It makes me try harder and be better at what I do. Digital photos have a place in my work as well, but whenever I can I’m grabbing film.
